RS PRO EMI/RFI Shielded ABS General Purpose Moulded Enclosure
Introducing the EMI/RFI Shielded ABS general purpose moulded enclosure from RS PRO, a highly durable and reliable plastic enclosure ideal for housing and protecting a wide range of electrical parts, cables and components whilst reducing interference with wireless technology and RF (radio frequencies).
This RS PRO ABS enclosure feature a base and lid manufactured from solid ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), offering a lightweight yet highly durable box with high resistance to chemical corrosion, impact, heat and more. The enclosures also features a conductive graphite grey paint finish coating, enhancing the protection. The base features brass inserts, allowing the lid to be securely attached via screws, with the ability to remove easily when required. This versatile plastic enclosure is suitable for use in a wide range of environments, with excellent wireless technology compatibility ensuring RF (radio frequency) won't be affected.
The box also features internal mounting guides to accept 1.6 mm PCBs (printed circuit boards), ensuring easy installation. Once assembled, the enclosure also offers an IP54 rating ensuring internal parts are protected from dirt and debris.

FAQs
What are the benefits of using ABS plastic?
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a low cost type of thermoplastic polymer that is highly durable and features a high resistance to chemical corrosion in its solid state. It has a low melting point allowing it to be moulded and shaped accordingly, making it a very versatile material. ABS plastic also features scratch resistance, high shock absorbance and high tensile strength.
What is an IP rating?
An IP rating indicates the level of protection internally from solids and liquids such as dust and water. The first digit refers to the level of protection from solids and the second refers to liquid. A lower number means minimal protection is offered, whereas a higher number offers greater protection. For example, an IP54 rating ensures sufficient protection from solids such as dust and moisture but is not dust tight or waterproof. An IP68 rating ensures the enclosure is dust tight and waterproof.
Is this enclosure waterproof?
No, this enclosure offers an IP54 level of protection therefore is not waterproof and should not be used outdoors or in the presence of liquids.
