The thermal-magnetic operation of this unit protects systems from overvoltage and short-circuits to limit electrical damage from surges and faults. A current rating of 63A and breaking capacity of 80kA make it able to handle high-power applications. The MCCB has a single switch to manually turn a circuit on and off. This allows maintenance and repairs on wiring and machines to be carried out safely.

Although both MCCBs (moulded case circuit breakers) and MCBs (miniature circuit breakers) interrupt an electric circuit when a fault is detected, they're not the same.
